Art in the Wild: Encaustic Botanical Collage
What is encaustic? Encaustic medium is a blend of refined beeswax and damar resin, which can be applied to a hard surface to bind and seal a multitude of collage-type materials including dried flowers, handmade paper, fibers, even beads and charms. Working with encaustic means you'll be working with hot wax. Different techniques will be demonstrated including using a heat gun, butane torch as well as a simple pancake griddle.
In this class, you'll be able to wander and select your own wildflowers for your botanical composition in addition to other materials provided. Each student will receive a wood plank canvas, access to wildflowers of their choosing, encaustic medium (move over modge podge!), and additional collage materials.

Open Studio & Weaving Workshop with Rachel Thurber
We will be making llama looms and larger cardboard looms!
First, we will decorate our cardboard llamas and make them into a loom. We will then learn the techniques of standard weaving and weave a blanket onto the llamas back with yarn. For older children and adults there will be an opportunity to make larger cardboard looms. This will give more space to experiment with different patterns. I can teach what is called a tapestry weave, which is more complex than the straight across weaving. This will allow them to make shapes within their weavings!
Rachel will have her loom and participants may get an opportunity to make little weavings on it as well.
Animal Portraits w/ Danielle Crouse
